Most people have to experiment with different methods before finding the one that helps them get clearer skin. There are a lot of treatment options for acne which can be categorised as follows:
Over-the-counter acne products
Some people find success using over-the-counter acne products. Most of the more popular ones frequently use benzoyl peroxide and/or some type of acid. These products are medicated and are usually sold in different forms for whatever skin type you have (oily, dry, or normal). Many people find that using a product such as this at the onset of a pimple will help them effectively combat the acne spreading to other areas of the face. Sensitive skin acne products are sold over-the-counter, as well, so be sure to look for them if your skin reacts poorly to harsh substances.
Popular products sold on TV
Many products sold on TV claim to fight acne. Late-night infomercials are numerous that tout one product or another, often using celebrities to endorse the products. They use well-known people (who get paid to promote their products) to try to sell you on the product because they assume you will listen to someone you are familiar with and someone you admire. Some people are helped by their products, though, so they might be worth looking at if you are having a hard time fighting acne. Just keep in mind that the products are usually expensive and will take some time to get to you by mail.
Visit a Dermatologist
Quite a few people choose to visit a dermatologist for help with their acne problems. A dermatologist can assess your skin problems and offer some very effective solutions. Some of their most commonly prescribed solutions are antibiotic therapy (to kill bacteria on the skin), oral medications, antibiotic creams, Retin A (acid to use on the skin), and medicated cleansers and ointments. Retin A has proved very beneficial in the fight against acne but it is very expensive, harsh, and sometimes hard for people with sensitive skin to use. However, if you do have sensitive skin or severe acne, you will probably have better luck going to a dermatologist because he will know exactly what products you need to be using. Dermatologists are a great help but do keep in mind that they are expensive to use.
No matter what method you decide to try in your fight against acne, there are always many other options if your method does not work. Don’t be afraid to try all of them to find the best one for your acne.
