The curse of mild acne can strike at most any age, all the way from pre-teen to adult. Many adults find themselves battling breakouts and wrinkles at the same time which can be difficult. The good news is that there are many cures for mild acne no matter how old you are.
Acne is a skin condition, actually a skin disease, that features a variety of different blemish types. There are blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. You might struggle with one particular type of acne or have more than one type at once.
One of the first things anyone trying to cure their mild acne should do is develop a skincare routine and stick with it consistently. This means morning and night, no matter how tired you are. This is especially true for women who wear cosmetics. All cosmetics must be removed before going to bed, with a product known as cleanser. Choose a cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to help zap zits from the get-go. Or, you can go natural and use jojoba oil as a cleanser which regulates the production of sebum even though it is an oil.
After cleansing your face, pat dry with a soft terrycloth towel. At this point you can apply a toner for blemish prone skin if you feel it is needed. There are gentle toners from natural companies with citrus, rosewater and other natural ingredients. Then there are hardcore toners on drugstore shelves that cut through oil and grime with a distinctive astringent smell. After toning, it’s time to treat. This is when you want to apply your acne treatment. Teens tend to do well with benzoyl peroxide treatments while adult acne sufferers should try a salicylic acid treatment or speak to their doctor about retinol for the skin.
Although it may seem counteractive, the final step in your AM-PM skincare routine is moisturizing. Choose a moisturizer designed for acne prone or oily skin, surprisingly there are lots of them out there. You can even find mattifying lotions that still add moisture while blotting shine. Just make sure the moisturizer you are using corresponds to your skin type and problem of mild acne. If the moisturizer contains sunscreen, great – if not, follow with a gentle oil-free facial sunscreen before applying makeup or going au naturel. Mild acne is irritating but it doesn’t have to mar your beauty.
